The Legends of Smithtown

The Smithtown Historical Society announces it new exhibit:
Running of the Bull: Smithtown's Origins, Real and Imagined

This exhibit will be open to the public as of Tuesday, January 19th. It will be running until August 2010. The exhibit is housed at the Caleb Smith House, 5 North Country Road. This exhibit is free of charge. Showing hoursare are Tuesday and Thursdays from Noon to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 - 2. For additional information please contact the Smithtown Historical Society at 631-265-6768.

 Sports Squirts
Smithtown Recreation has teamed up with U.S.  Sports Institute to offer a Sports Squirts Camp. This camp is for children ages 3 - 5. The program is designed to introduce young children to a variety of sports in a safe and structured environment. The sports will include Soccer, Basketball, T-Ball, Hockey, Lacrosse, Parachute and Kids choice. The camp will be held at Veterans Memorial Park on Fridays from April 23rd - June 4th. Program times are 10:00 - 11:00 or 1:00 - 2:00. The cost is $115.00. For more information, please contact the recreation Department at 631-360-7644.

FREAKY FRIDAY
 
Session I:January 22 - The Dogs of Winter

During these long winter days, listen to some cool stories about amazing sled dogs while learning some quick facts about the Last Great Race, the Iditarod. Then create your own little sled from popsicle sticks and paint it red!

Each child attending should come prepared with an empty, clean half-gallon sized cardboard juice container.

 
Session II:February 5 - Learning About Lincoln

Learn a bit about one of our most beloved Presidents and then construct a cool log cabin like the one in which young Abe grew up.

 
Session III:March 5 - Fantastic Flowers

Celebrate Women's History Month by hearing some stories about artist Georgia O'Keeffe, famous for her vivid paintings of beautiful flowers. Then create a colorful collage flower.

 
This is a program of themed stories and a craft for school-aged children.
